This lesson uses intentional teaching strategies to focus on the capability of curiosity about the natural world. Children will recreate an island setting for socio-dramatic play, navigating the sensory experiences of that space whilst exploring their emotional reactions to stimuli.
In the next lesson, kids explore the value of ‘patience’. They begin by watching the Bluey episode and have a chat about what they observed in the episode. They then participate in one or more activities designed to help kids practise patience. There is also the option to complete a mindfulness exercise aimed at helping kids regulate their emotions, including those that can be related to struggling with being patient.
And finally, this lesson uses intentional teaching strategies to focus on the capabilities of perseverance. Children will explore perseverance with learning a new skill. They focus on trusting themselves to give new experiences a try and use simple statements like ‘I believe I can do it’ to help them succeed with a new perseverance challenge. It is a fun way to set a challenge and find out what it takes to be persistent and persevere to achieve a new skill.
